Your Flight, A Scenario......
Your adventure begins on the launch field at our Balloonport. Your pilot and crew assemble the flight system. After the balloon is prepared, the inflation process begins.
A powerful fan pushes air into the envelope. You watch in amazement as the huge nylon teardrop takes shape. When the envelope is filled with air, the burner is started. As the trapped air is heated, the balloon rises and stands gently swaying as final pre-flight checks are made.
The pilot beckons and you enter the basket. He fires the burner, further warming the air in the envelope. The aerostat lifts free of the earth's clutches, passing the treetops on it's ascent and unfolding a panorama of the Wisconsin countyside. You share the thrill of man's first reach for the heavens.
You float with the breeze like a cloud, in harmony with your surroundings. You watch from above as hawks circle and deer bound across the balloon's flight path. Every moment provides a new photographic opportunity.
The pilot deftly guides the balloon back to earth. The flight is completed. The pilot and crew pack the balloon and load it for the return trip to the launch field. Your adventure is over, but its memories and pictures are yours to treasure for a lifetime.
WHERE?
Our flights are done in the western Lake Country area near Sullivan, 40 minutes to one hour from Milwaukee or from Madison.
WHEN?
We offer passenger flights during the months of May through October. We have flights available most days. Sunrise flights begin a little after sunrise; sunset flights about 1-1/2 hours before sunset. When you make your reservation, we will tell you what time you should be here.
HOW?
We can accommodate up to six passengers at a time. We never know exactly where the breeze will take us, so we provide a chase vehicle to follow us on the ground while we fly and carry us back to the launch site when we finish. Each flight will last at least one hour and usually covers five to fifteen air miles.
WHO?
Balloon flight is an enjoyable experience for persons of all ages. Children under twelve years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Passengers must be physically fit enough to climb into and out of the basket and to stand for an hour during the flight. Please check with us if you have any physical condition that may affect you on the flight.
TICKETS AND RESERVATIONS
Tickets are $175 per person, including sales tax and may be charged on MasterCard or Visa. Tickets may be ordered by phone, by fax order form or by mail. Phone orders may be placed during our office hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. Tickets are redeemable at the holder's convenience during a one year period after they are issued. Ticket holders may make advance reservations. We will reserve space for you on a flight of your choice on a first-come, first-served basis.
PURCHASES FOR GIFTS
Our ticket packages are designed with gift-giving in mind. They come with complete information on what the flight is like, directions to our launch site, how to make reservations and even the type of clothing to wear. The one thing that is not included is the price of the flight. Tickets are normally mailed in a plain envelope so that they can come to your home and still remain a surprise. If the recipient opens all the mail at home, we will send them to you at work or a friend's home if you so instruct us.
SAFETY, WEATHER AND WEATHER OUTS
When we leave the earth behind in favor of the air, we commit ourselves to an element that is continuously undergoing changes which are beyond our control. Balloons are not inherently more dangerous than other aircraft, but they are affected much more by the element in which they exist. It therefore becomes critical to accurately predict what weather changes will occur during the time we are in the air. The FAA prescribes minimum requirements for visibility that we need in order to fly. Cloudy conditions are acceptable, but we don't fly in the rain. We don't want to have thunderstorms within 30 miles because they can affect large areas with unpredictable and sometimes dangerous winds. We need to have winds of less than ten miles per hour at the time we land. Other than possible emergencies, the only reason Balloons Unlimited will cancel your flight is due to unsuitable weather. Before you buy tickets, however, you should be advised that it is not unusual to have your flight weather out. Over the whole flying season, the average is to get your flight on the third try. Early or late in the season, you may have to wait through five or six.
